L-shaped kitchen is a common and efficient kitchen layout. This layout utilizes two perpendicular wall lengths for the counter space. Hence, it enables a good work triangle for the kitchen. The cooking/preparation zone can be along one wall whereas the washing/storage can be against the other. As compared to the single wall kitchen layout, the L-shaped layout works better as the work zones (cooking, preparation, storage, washing) are brought closer to each other making it less cumbersome for the user.
L-shaped Kitchen Layout
The plan below shows a typical L-shaped kitchen layout. One wall houses the hob (cooking area) and the other has the sink and the refrigerator. The close proximity of the sink and refrigerator allows the user to easily access stocks and wash them. The counter between the hob and sink can be utilized as a preparation zone.
The L-shaped kitchen can be made more productive by adding a kitchen island to it. L-shaped kitchen with island is a popular and efficient layout used for open kitchens. But this can be implemented only if sufficient space is available in the kitchen. The island can add up as dining area or an extended zone for preparation and storage.
